Being one of the largest Shopping Centres in the Southern Hemisphere that services the outer suburbs of Melbourne the redevelopment of QIC’s Eastland Shopping Centre has become not only a transformative space but an integral part of the wider community. Bold in it’s design, the roof canopy is a key feature of the centre, towering over the new addition of 250 retail speciality stores. The cathedral like structure weaves itself around the building allowing sweeping natural light to pour into the space making entire mall feel light filled and open. Technical considerations were important with not only the roof but the large concrete curved structure that acts as the doorway to the centre. Outdoor alfresco restaurants and natural gardens are a nice balance and entry point for customers as well as the statement modern art sculptural pieces acquired by the renowned Melbourne artist Bromley and Co.
